Jane Austen remains one of the greatest writers of all time. Almost two hundred years after her death, her novels such as “Pride and Prejudice” and “Mansfield Park” continue to entrance generations of readers the world over. This film shatters any assumption that Austen herself lived the elegant Regency life of her financially comfortable heroines who ultimately find their true love.
Instead it reveals the real Jane Austen as part of strata of Regency society much crueller in its treatment of women and harsher in its economic realities than her novels and their current television adaptations convey. Following the sell out tour and triumphantly successful album 'The Emancipation of Mimi', Mariah Carey releases the highly anticipated tour DVD 'The Adventures of Mimi'.
The tour, produced by Ken Ehrlich, played to packed houses across the States, Canada and Japan. Throughout the tour the multi-award winning star sang hits including her classics such as "Vision of Love and "Fantasy" and also songs from her latest album including "We Belong Together", "It's Like That" and "Say Something". In the late 16th century Europe was in the grip of a ferocious witch hunt, where thousands were tortured and burnt at the stake. The church was fully behind this terrifying crusade against the imaginary enemies of Christianity. In France and Germany alone up to 40,000 people may have been killed as witches. But England and Scotland were almost untouched by witch persecutions until King James himself decided to launch his own, personal war on witchcraft.
In 1597 King James VI of Scotland published 'Daemonology', a handbook on how to recognise and destroy, witches. The book explored the threat that 'those Detestable slaves of the Devil', posed to James himself. It fuelled waves of witch hunting throughout Britain.
The legacy of James' 'Daemonology' continued throughout the 17th century, and led to the torture and execution of hundreds of women in a series of infamous witch trials. No-one knows exactly how many men and women died in these trials, such as the Pendle trial of 1612, or how many others were killed in cases that never came to court. The documentary reveals the purges in many areas of Britain drew directly on King James' book. Also for the first time, remarkable new archaeological evidence from Cornwall, suggests that witchcraft was actively practiced for centuries, even during the most intense periods of witch-hunting. Experimental archaeologist Jacqui Wood has excavated strange pits lined with swan's feathers, and filled with animal skins and human remains. She believes the pits were ritual offerings inspired by witchcraft beliefs.

踏入二千年以来，Madonna这位已「女人四十」的流行音乐天后似乎有一种愈战愈勇之势。2005年，Madonna在出版过一张以Future Disco为大前提的Confessions On A Dance Floor专辑(也是其第十张专辑)、重拾她的Dancing Queen / Queen Of Clubland姿态后，再引伸出是两款她的DVD录像出品：先是为其04年Reinvention Tour拍摄的纪录片I’m Going To Tell You A Secret在去年面世，继而是在这个07年初推出的现场演出影片The Confessions Tour。两者同是由合作多时的Jonas Akerlund执导摄製。她的乐迷绝对不愁寂寞吧。
在The Confessions Tour内，收录了Madonna在2006年的Confessions Tour世界性巡迴演出在英国伦敦Wembley Arena举行的一站，共三场音乐会，最后一晚(8月16日)演出，正是她的四十八岁生辰，故也别有纪念性意义。
早已得悉她的Confessions Tour是何等精采绝伦。而毋庸置疑，这张The Confessions Tour的DVD，亦是那么叫人为之目不遐给。变化多端的舞台(包括令到由Stuart Price担任音乐总监的伴奏乐团可以「神出鬼没」)，精湛而慑人的录像投射，加上舞蹈员的配合，达至每首歌曲的表演皆有不同的Setting配套。现在在DVD里，又不时重新将本来的录像投射与舞台的画面加以重迭，效果更嘆为观止。后期製作的出色乃毋庸置疑。
